Gardens, Bees, and Related Products in the Durham Community

Join us and our guest speakers Eliza Lawdley from Durham Golden Leaf Award winner Bee Downtown, Kay Coleman of Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, Diane Currier of Honeygirl Meadery, and Katie-Rose Levin of TreesDurham to learn how these local bees-nesses shape bio-diversity in Durham and how our community has helped shape these Durham grown companies. 

TOPICS INCLUDE

• Pollinator garden design and implementation in Durham’s urban and rural settings
• Durham pollinator gardens, bees, honey and their locally produced goods
• Bee keeping and local policy in Durham’s urban and rural settings
• City/County landscape and tree guidelines
• Q+A with our guests

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Participants will identify design strategies for the successful integration of a pollinator friendly landscape into a site while addressing safety and accessibility guidelines.
  2. Participants will discuss the design of the and implementation of three pollinator gardens; one complete, one under construction, and one in design.
  3. Participants will identify needs, strategies, zoning policies, and codes for bee-keeping in urban and rural settings.
  4. Participants will compare native and non-native, pollinator friendly and pollinator unfriendly species of trees and plants from the Durham City/County Landscape Manual.
